Many Student Success and 1st Year Experience programs are geared toward likely at-risk students to help students achieve academic and personal success. Your program may focus on freshmen seminars, workshops and guidance for financial, social, academic, and developmental support. STEAR is a collaborative system.

Student Success and 1st Year Experience offices can be the initial point of contact for your group of students.

The Student Early Alert Retention system, (STEAR), is a robust, campus-wide web-based tool built to focus on retaining students. STEAR solicits input from faculty to alert Advisors when students are struggling.  Studies show that active intervention is the most effective method for student persistence.
